On our recent trip to Haiti she met with the cooks at the school. Our goal is to add this flour to the school lunches served to the children. For the past 9 months our volunteers have been performing blood pressure screening on their friends and neighbors. Through this process ,we have been able to identify and treat 300 patients for hypertension. We supplied them with 6 months of medication and our volunteers will be checking their blood pressures until we return in July of 2017. Hypertension is a silent disease . Many children in the village suffer from severe tooth decay and tooth pain. In an effort to improve community health, we have started a program for the teeth. Silver Diamine Fluoride is a topical treatment that kills the bacteria on the tooth and stops the progression of the decay. It will take away the tooth pain and prevent the cavity from progressing.We hope this will preserve the baby tooth until the adult teeth come in.
