Hypertension management depends on our Health Care Volunteers.
For the past 9 months our volunteers have been performing blood pressure screening on their friends and neighbors. Through this process ,we have been able to identify and treat 300 patients for hypertension. We supplied them with 6 months of medication and our volunteers will be checking their blood pressures until we return in July of 2017. Hypertension is a silent disease . Often times there are no symptoms until too late. Routine screening can save lives and help prevent the number one killer in Haiti. Studies show that 46 percent of rural Haitians suffer from hypertension.
